What you are working on.....
Posted by Gary on July 24, 2008

Just curious as to what everyone is currently working on.

Right now Wes and I are working on a ToonLife episode and have an upcoming Judson Boys that needs to be recorded.  We also have plans for a podcast in the works.  It will be relatively short and will include some of our outtakes.  I can't wait to get it recorded so you guys can hear how much fun we have with it.

Anyway, lets hear what everyone is up to!

I'm working on a sequel to "Spinning Silver Sphere". It's much more ambitious than the original and will center around the threat posed by a mad scientist and his massive battle robot. I also have a simpler more humorous animation on the drawing board. I won't give too much away on that one, other than to say it parodies a fairly well-known movie.

How far along are you on each of your projects Ted?

I'm working on getting caught up on other tasks (paperwork, etc.) so that I can focus on creating something new. Not sure that counts as working on something, though... :( When I do start another animation project, I expect it will be in Bryce (and more complex than before), as I'm trying to improve my grasp of that particular tool.

The "Spinning Silver Sphere" sequel is coming along very well, Gary. I estimate that I have about 1/3 or so of the video footage created and I think the remainder will go quite fast now that I have most of the (POVRay) models developed. Then I need to do the sound track. I think the whole thing might be ready by the end of this week. If not, then hopefully some time the following week.

The parody, on the other hand, is much simpler and should just take a day or so total. I might take a break from the big project and get that out first. I have not really done anything on it other than a few preliminary drawings, but I have it all planned out.

How's that new ToonLife episode coming? I imagine that must be *very* close to done by now if it isn't already.

Snakestu, I look forward to seeing your Bryce project. I recall at least one neat animation you made with Bryce already. It will be interesting to see what you come up with with as you take your skill with the package to the next level :)

What is Bryce Snakestu? What program were you using before?

Bryce is a 3D modeling program that specializes in (but is not limited to) terrains. It has been around quite awhile but with a varied history of publishers (including, at one point, Corel). You can get a quick synopsis by looking up Bryce (software) on Wikipedia, or check out the info from the current publisher (DAZ Productions) at: http://www.daz3d.com/i.x/software/bryce/-/?&_m=d&refid=969558049 I can't claim to be proficient with any 3D animation software, I started with POVRay back in the 90s and have just dabbled with a few things along the way. My goal now, though, is to gain a solid grasp of both Bryce and DAZ Studio so that I can generate still images for potential sales through microstock sites and animations for a wide variety of purposes.
